Outdoor Educators are operating at Cumberland Nature Reserve, only 15km east of Pietermaritzburg. This 303 ha Nature Reserve is an environmental treasure trove as it is home to an abundance of wildlife. The reserve borders on the Umgeni river while the Rietspruit river runs through the property, cutting through African thornveld and forming two waterfalls over the rocky outcrops before continuing its path to the Umgeni river. With plenty of variety of grassland, indigenous forest, wildlife and birdlife it is indeed a magnificent area to visit.   Although facilities are basic, it is also ideal for Corporate one - day Team Building programs, combined with a lunch/ braai out in a beautiful environment. The leaders of groups are normally accommodated in separate furnished rooms a few meters from the two dorms.  Leaders/ teachers have their own private kitchen, lounge and ablution facilities. There is also a swimming pool, and an area for volleyball and other games during leisure time. Groups need to book in advance to make use of our service at Cumberland Nature Reserve.
